You’re walking back from class at night, earbuds in, and you notice the same person keeps showing up near you. Your stomach drops a little.
You think someone might be following you as you walk toward your usual route home.
What should you do right now?
- Go inside and get to help fast
- Keep walking home to see what happens
- Ask the person what they want
- Wait until you are 100% sure
Recommended
Go inside and get to help fast
If it feels like you are in danger, the first move is getting help fast. If there is immediate danger, call 911 first. If it is not immediate danger, move toward an open, staffed place or a group, contact someone you trust, and tell them where you are. You do not need to confront the person or confirm their intentions.
Your next step
Move toward an open, staffed place and call/text someone you trust with your location.
Words you can use
“I think someone’s following me. Can I stay here while I get help?”
