Ask the Surefoot Coach

Find words. Explore options. Practice your next step.

The Surefoot Coach helps you find words and options for an uncomfortable situation, a boundary you want to set, a friend you want to help, or a hard conversation. Every answer is checked by an independent reviewer. Share only what you are comfortable sharing, and leave out names, contact details and anything that identifies someone.

If someone is in danger now, call 911.

Not sure where to start?

You can keep it brief. You do not need to explain everything to ask for help.

Surefoot is not a crisis line. It cannot call anyone, see your location or monitor you.

How the Coach works

Surefoot uses AI to suggest wording and options. Automated checks help identify unsafe or unsupported answers, but mistakes are possible. You choose what fits your situation.

  • Messages that sound urgent get emergency guidance right away, without waiting for AI.
  • Otherwise an AI model drafts an answer from guidance reviewed by people. Automated rules and a second AI model check it for safety, relevance, blame and made-up resources. A second model’s approval is not proof that an answer is accurate.
  • If no draft passes, or the checks take longer than about 25 seconds, you get guidance written and reviewed by people instead.
  • Sources link to the organizations the guidance is based on. Suggested wording is Surefoot’s, not the source’s.
What happens to my message
  • Your message is sent to the AI models that write and check the answer. By default these run on Cloudflare Workers AI. When its daily free allowance is used up, a backup provider, Groq, is used instead until it resets.
  • Surefoot does not save the text of your message or the answer. Clearing the conversation removes them from this page.
  • For 90 days Surefoot keeps a record without your words: the general topic, which kind of answer you got, the check scores, how long it took, and any feedback button you press. These help improve the Coach and are not used as training examples.
  • To limit use, a daily counter is kept under a scrambled version of your network address that changes every day. It is deleted the next day.
